Getting kids off the couch and out onto the playground can be somewhat of a challenge these days. The internet, video games, and all the fun that comes with being indoors poses a rather large challenge for kids (and adults) in staying active. However, Pokémon Go seems to be supplying the cure. People are getting out of their houses in a frenzied attempt to catch ‘em all! So, how can you and your child take advantage of this awesome initiative? Let’s take a look!
Pokémon Go is going to help your child get excited about going outside.
To play the game, all you need is an updated cellphone and a love for Pokémon. Once you’ve downloaded the game and signed in, you’ll need to turn on your GPS. Then you walk around with your child and look for wild Pokémon. Once you find one, you can throw a poke ball at it and you will catch it! Then you can level your Pokémon up by walking around. Once you reach level five you can join one of the game’s three factions: Team Valor, Team Mystic, and Team Instinct. Then, you can challenge Pokémon gyms in your area and battle for control. But wait! There’s more. On your map, you will find places called Poke Stops. These are local landmarks where you can restock your poke balls or pick up Pokémon eggs. Sometimes you can also find a lure, which will attract lots and lots of Pokémon to the area. They’ll also attract other trainers!
Pokémon Go is one of the biggest games on the market right now.
Pokémon has been a popular show, game, and franchise since the early 90’s. With the introduction of this new game, there seems to be a Pokémon renaissance where people young and old are engaging with their favorite pocket monsters again. It has almost as many users as Twitter! So, consider it for a fun activity that you can do with your child while getting active!
