With flu season upon us, it is necessary to make sure that you and your family are taking the necessary precautions to stay flu-free this winter. Don’t allow your family to be more vulnerable to the flu than they already are during a high-risk time of year. Here are a few tips when managing your family’s health.
Get Your Flu Shots
This is an obvious one, but there’s a reason it’s at the top of the list. Most people think that if they haven’t gotten a flu shot in years and have somehow managed to breeze through the years flu-free, that they don’t need the vaccine. The flu is running rampant, and maybe last year you and your child were able to stave off infection without the vaccine, but it’s not worth the risk. Getting the flu shot is easy and cheap. Your doctor can administer the shot easily and quickly. If you don’t have time to make an appointment, you and your child can visit a clinic. Make sure everyone in your family is vaccinated as soon as you possibly can. It’s your first defense against the flu.
Eating well is a large part of your child’s health. During the coldest months, our bodies crave perhaps the least healthy foods. Avoid these cravings and be sure to buy lots of produce for you and your family. Luckily, clementines and mandarins are in season. Not only are these little fruits easy for even preschool-aged children to peel and eat themselves, but they are packed with vitamins that are essential for staying healthy during these cold months
There’s no such thing as over-cleaning your home. No matter how many days a week your child attends school, your child is exposed to all kinds of sicknesses. All of those germs travel with them from the hallways of their school to the dinner table in your home. Have your child thoroughly wash their hands as soon as they arrive from school. Wipe down every surface as often as you can, and wash your child’s winter coats and backpacks weekly.
