Is your child lacking the confidence they need to excel in school? Children struggle in school for a variety of reasons. Whether it is academics or making friends, there are all sorts of reasons why school could be tripping up your son or daughter. However, as their parent, there are things you can do to help them become more confident in school.
Praise Their Strengths
Although you don’t want to go overboard, you need to give your child praise. It is important that they hear that they are special from their parents because it will help their confidence levels at a young age. When you tell them what characteristics make them great you want to be sure to be specific. Don’t just make a general statement like, “you’re smart”. Be specific and provide them with examples to back up your claims. For example, if you are telling them how smart they are, remind them how many good grades they have received this year.
Determine Your Child’s Struggle Areas
If your child is struggling in school, you need to determine what areas they are having problems in. Sometimes, your son or daughter will keep their problems to themselves. For example, you may not have known that your son was having issues in math class until you found the test he failed tucked under his bed. If you suspect your child is having a hard time in school, you need to determine what exactly is tripping them up so you can do your best to help.
Listen To Them
You child needs to know that you are in their corner. When you sit down to talk to your child you need to pay close attention to what they are telling you. Don’t think about what you are going to say next. You need to be completely focused on what your child. By doing so, you show your child how much you care and love them.
